The Transfer Portal is the ultimate double-edged sword. On one side, it’s a blessing: the ability to find better opportunities and finally get paid what you’re worth. On the other, it can be a curse. Many athletes jump for the “bag” only to find out that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

The Development Trap

Let’s look at the film.

School A offers you $500,000. They have an elite staff, a track record of developing your position, and a position coach who has every NFL scout on speed dial.

School B offers you $2,000,000 upfront. But the staff is unproven, the resources are thin, and players there tend to plateau with a low Draft rate.

If you only look at “where can I make the most money next year,” you’re missing the bigger play. Making $2M next year is a loss if it costs you a $20M NFL contract three years from now. Not all money has the same weight.

The Reality Check
